Biography
Chioma has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and joined the IOI as a Postdoctoral Researcher on Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbiology just after submitting her PhD thesis in September of 2021. She supported the development of and co-led the Arthropods as vectors of Infection and AMR (AVIAR) study: https://www.ineosoxford.ox.ac.uk/aviar AVIAR and helped to set up the IOI multi-site projects in Nigeria, including BARNARDS (https://www.ineosoxford.ox.ac.uk/barnards), BALANCE (https://www.ineosoxford.ox.ac.uk/balance), AVIAR and a few other sub-studies. She is currently the IOI’s Scientific Lead for Nigeria.
Chioma’s research interests spans areas of antimicrobial resistance, infectious disease epidemiology, one health, bacterial genomics, zoonoses, and food safety. She is developing interest in understanding the effect of climate change on the spread of antimicrobial resistant pathogens and is especially keen to work and collaborate on studies that would positively impact low- and middle-income countries.
